Charlottesville City Public Schools Policies
- The District strategic plan calls for hiring staff based on race:
- “Make annual progress toward hiring licensed staff of color.”
- The District does not require staff to notify parents if a student asserts a gender identity than their biological sex. Staff must call a student by their chosen gender identity name and pronoun.
- District policy states: “Students shall be permitted to use the restroom, locker room, or changing facility consistent with the student’s asserted gender identity.”
- If another student expresses discomfort with a transgender student’s use of a sex-segregated restroom, locker room, or changing facility, upon request, school administrators and counseling staff may address the discomfort and foster an understanding of gender identity, to create a school culture that respects and values all students. Moreover, the objecting student should be given the option to use an alternative space that is made available to any student who desires more privacy.
- Students are prohibited from wearing clothing that depicts “confederate imagery.”
