  • Led a webinar series for elementary students titled “Let’s Talk Dope.”
    • The series promoted BLM, said our nation has a long pattern of police violence against blacks, and encouraged protests.
    • Told students to Interrupt, Question, Educate, Echo
    • Explained “why we give pronouns and racial identity—to help you think about your racial identity.”
    • Students asked the following questions and were given the following answers in the webinar:
      • I think it’s awful to get judged by skin color—why does that happen?
        • These attacks on minorities have occurred since colonists landed on our shores. This injustice happens all around us.
      • When will this inequality end?
        • “This is just me and my truth”… “black and indigenous people haven’t had the opportunity to heal.” “We’re still living with the repercussions of slavery”, “we’re still living with the pain that our ancestors felt” … systemic oppression still exists (36:10).
      • Can I go to protests if I’m white?
        • “Yes, but you need to be aware of your whiteness and what that brings into the space.” Look to black leaders to be sure those voices are elevated.
      • Will the police hurt me because of what I believe in? (44:30)
        • It’s a tricky question because we see people who protest and get hurt.
        • If you go protest you may get hurt but “that’s not a reason to not voice your opinion or stand in solidarity”
        • “the moment we step out of our house our lives could be in danger” (48:20)
      • Are police the only ones who hurt and kill black people (49:15)
        • No, it’s not just police officers. Racism is a virus that can affect others.
      • Why were black people chosen as slaves rather than white people? (50:30)
        • Because Europeans traded things and wanted cheap labor to do work for them, so they traded people. Europeans forced African slaves to come and work for them through trickery… Europeans saw the wealth in Africa and they were jealous and started to rape the land and steal from the land.
      • I’m young and my parents don’t tell me about these things, what can I do to make a change?
        • Ask your family, why aren’t we talking about this?
        • “Silence can be a form of violence”—”you have to interrupt the silence”
