Sun Prairie School District Policies

  • District website claims they will stand by their students, staff, and families no matter their immigration status.
  • The district focuses on “equity from the boardroom to the classroom to the living room.”
  • The strategic plan states they will support employee “affinity groups” for “traditionally marginalized populations within our employee groups.”
  • District has a goal for “staff demographics matching our student demographics” so that “outcome disparities in academics disappear.
  • Has an Office of Systemic Equity and Inclusion—the Director is Michael Morgan.
  • Professional development includes a controversial program called “Courageous Conversations” that includes a “white privilege exercise” in its curriculum.
  • Pushes “culturally responsive instruction” that teaches about “present-day systems of oppression, racism and injustice.”
  • A resource link in the library curation guide gives direction on utilizing diverse books including books on sexuality and gender identity.
  • Teachers are told to use the far-left human rights campaign training on LGBT issues and “Welcoming Schools.”
  • The district promotes Gender Sexuality Alliance
  • Each school has an equity team called an “E-Team.” They consider themselves “anti-racist” leaders and use strategies from the controversial “Courageous Conversations about Race” program to “lead systemic change.”
  • A criminal complaint against a former district high school Dean of Students charged him with 15 felonies, including multiple counts of child sexual exploitation and possession of child pornography, and alleged that he solicited nude videos and photos from his students. He accepted a plea agreement in Jan 2026. The school district is accused of not properly investigating early allegations that he was having an inappropriate relationship with a student.
  • The district’s policy regarding transgender students:
    • Requires staff to address a student by their chosen gender identity pronoun.
    • A student can request to be called by a different name/pronoun without parental permission and staff must comply. They only have to provide information if a guardian specifically asks.
    • Students are permitted to use the restroom associated with their gender identity not biological sex.
    • Locker room use will be decided on a case by case basis but “there is no absolute rule that, in all cases, will require a transgender student to access and use only the locker rooms and other changing areas that correspond to the biological sex that student was assigned at birth.”
    • Students may participate in PE, intramural sports or other athletic activities consistent with their gender identity. The WIAA will determine the rules for high school sports.
